NEW KISS and DROP plans from CVC.
This Information for Parents and Carers has been provided by CVC. This new plan is coming into action by the Clarence Valley Council after the school holidays and will be patrolled by council rangers.
From the start of next term, you will notice new line marking on Carrs Drive. These changes are being introduced to improve safety for students and families.
- Yellow Line = No Stopping
The yellow line means vehicles cannot stop along this section of road at any time. This prevents queuing in the marked area and ensures drivers have clear sight distance when exiting the kiss-and-drop zone. - Arrive After the Bell
To reduce congestion, please arrive at the school zone after the bell. Arriving too early creates unnecessary queuing on Carrs Drive. - How Kiss-and-Drops Should Work
The kiss-and-drop zone is designed to function like an airport drop-off/pick-up: - Stop only long enough for your child to get in or out safely.
- The continuity line C1 is how far out you can safely pull on departure without interacting with the traffic.
Council did suggets a "go round option if your children are not ready" which I have not included but I am sure that if families work quickly to load we can work with council on improving the safety on Carr's Drive.
Just a reminder. Our school bell goes at 3:10pm. This is dismissal time from classrooms meaning it is when it must dismiss for our legal operations as a school in NSW.

Dear Parents and Carers
At the beginning of this year Mrs Hollington approached me about a DVA competition. Stage 3 work in RFF on the project for Semester 1 and a most excited Pam rang me while I was away at meetings on Wednesday to say that the Minister was about to announce that Saint James had won the NSW division of the Anzac Day Schools' Awards. A full report is in the Learning and Teaching News below from Mrs Cason.
I visited our S2 andS3 children at the Touch Gala Day today. Such a well-run event and a great community event for our children to take part in. Check out Instagram for all our Best and Fairest students and thanks to all the staff and parents who volunteered on the day.
On Monday, our Stage 2 and 3 Public Speakers are off to Coffs Harbour for the Regional Public Speaking Finals. Good luck to Anthony, Molly, Poppy and Slater.
This week coming is Book Week at St James where Tuesday is Parade Morning. We are all dusting off our costumes ready for this week. Hope to see you there. What time? Probably about 9:15am as soon as we get rolls marked and everyone seated.
Wednesday the senior football players are off to Grafton for the Diocesan Football Finals. Fingers crossed!
Please make sure you read the message from CVC about Carr’s Drive and queuing for Kiss and Drop. Can you please share this with grandparents and carers who do pickups? I do not want anyone to have difficulty with the new CVC plans which have resulted from feedback to council from parents of St James.
I will hand out a paper copy this week to all in pick-up lines. I am hoping to make all aware and avoid interactions with council rangers on Carr's Drive.
Can I just let you know that the lateness of this newsletter came from a 'your account is suspended message' on Schoolzine which is no longer happening, and I can now once again use my password. I thought I was going mad when it stopped working on Friday afternoon.
See on Tuesday if you are joining us,
Ann

State winners of the 2025 ANZAC Day Schools’ Awards!
Established in 2001, the Anzac Day Schools’ Awards is an annual competition recognising the brilliant work of students and educators, across the country, who engage with veterans and current serving personnel to gain a deeper understanding of military service and honour Australia’s wartime history.
This year, St James' Primary School, Yamba are the state champions!
Led by Mrs Hollington, Stage 3 students from St James’ Primary School embraced the Awards' theme, ‘Remembering Gallipoli: 110 years’, in a meaningful and respectful way. The entry connected the head (learning) with the heart (feeling) successfully. The presentation was a compilation of the students’ learning experiences. It included images of students examining World War I artefacts and researching veteran stories. The judging panel commended the use of ‘process drama’ techniques to engage students and that the video reflections were an honest record of the students’ feelings and thoughts on the campaign. The panel also liked how the students researched local Gallipoli veterans and applied their knowledge in letters written to loved ones back home.
Being state champions, St James Primary will receive a prize of $3000!
What a fantastic experience and result!
