Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a big week!
Our children, families and staff were:- representing in Lismore at the 200 Years celebration; competing in Diocesan Cross Country; acknowledging Sorry Day; dancing the night away at the Disco and receiving a fabulous input from the Catholic Schools Office Consultant and Parent Assembly representative on Helping Children Thrive at school.
Thank you to anyone who was involved in any of these events for your support.
I expect to be even more newsy next week with the amount of money raised through the "quietest disco ever", a thank you and an invitation to another Paernt Assembly event on June 8th.
The afternoon rushes on! and I am off to Kiss and Drop
Have a lovely weekend ( enjoy your stage gatherings )

RE News
200 years of Catholic Education in Australia was celebrated in the Diocese of Lismore this week. Principals and students from across the diocese gathered together for Mass in St Carthage’s Cathedral in acknowledgement of this significant milestone and the contribution of clergy, religious, lay men and women, parents and parishes who have helped build Catholic education.
This week we celebrated National Sorry Day. As we remember and acknowledge the mistreatment of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, may our recognition of our history sharpen our focus on the now, our theme for this week. Now is the time to shape our future. Now is the time to make a new history.

LOP News
This week a group of our S1 and S2 students who love writing participated in a Virtual Reality activity. They were very excited to use the Google Expedition Virtual Reality kits that we borrowed from the Catholic Schools Office in Lismore. The students explored underwater and space through the eyes of of an astronaut and diver. The learning intention for the day was for students who had previously used the VR kit to teach their peers how to use the VR headsets.
Elle is watching the underwater world and ready to write her great story.
Billie is teaching Sarai how to use the VR kit and writing a great story.
Great writing from Aaron S2, Billie S1, Luca S1, Myla S2 and Sarai S1.
Movie- Jake teaching Slater how to use the VR headsets and having lots of fun.
BICENTENARY OF CATHOLIC EDUCATION
The celebrations marked 200 years since the first official Catholic school opened in Parramatta in October 1820. Two hundred years ago, Fr John Therry answered the call to educate the youth of Parramatta. From that small beginning of 31 students began a great work that now spans 1755 schools, 100,000 staff and 777,000 school students across Australia.
What a wonderful milestone we celebrated last Monday at St Carthages Cathedral in Lismore with a National Mass by Rev Paul Gooley. The whole congregation participated in a Smoking and Water Blessing Ceremony prior to the commencement of the Liturgy. All of the School Captains then processed into the Cathedral holding their school’s Proclaim banner. I was so proud of our School Captains, Tully Waghorn and Jesse Daley-Malone who conducted themselves with reverence and respect throughout the Mass. They were responsible and great role models all day and were a credit to our school.

Early Stage 1
This term in Kindergarten we have been reading rich texts and communicating ideas about them. We have been retelling the events in sequence and comparing the characters and settings. Children have loved reading The Gruffalo, Room on the Broom and Alexander’s Outing. We have started to use an “Editing Checklist” - this ensures we re-read our writing, checking for full stops, capital letters & finger spaces. Check out our fabulous writing below!
Stage 1
Over the this term we have been exploring drama and music. Last week we joined The Sydney Opera House Digital Creative Learning Team for the story - Wilfred Gordon Macdonald Partridge. This was a wonderful story telling experience linking music and drama. This week we have begun the process of linking drama and music as part of storytelling. We have also been getting ready for the Athletics Carnival practicing our skills. This week we have enjoyed hurdles. Some very tired but enthusiastic participants in all areas.
Have a great week
Anne-Maree and Rachelle
Stage 2
This week stage 2 has been working on refining their persuasive skills. They had to create a poster for the St James community persuading them that ‘Sport is better than video games’. Students brainstormed their key arguments, used pictures, facts, bossy words and slogans to create their posters. Students designed their posters using a computer program called canva.
Stage 3
Yesterday was National Sorry Day. As part of our commemoration and remembrance, we listened to Archie Roach's powerful song, "Took The Children Away”. After this, we chose an 'anchor' word - one word out of the entire lyrics that resonated with us personally, then composed a black out poem (where you select words that catch your interest from a printed text, along with a few additional words to make it flow). The words selected to complement our anchor allowed us to create new and equally powerful poems. The criteria: an anchor word, 30-40 words only, no more than 4 words in row to be used. We can’t wait to learn more poetry next term!
Please check out the S3 Seesaw for more poems!
