Dear Parents and Carers
The term has come to an end with a lovely productive and thought provoking professional learning day. The staff at St James' are continuing to work on building a collective understanding of our role as staff in a Catholic school under the name of St James. All staff have worked today to build knowledge and to prepare for our first whole school celebration of the Feast of St James, the Fisherman.
Below is an invitation to join us on Friday 23rd July to learn about his story and to recognise his role, his guidance and his relational contribution to the story of Jesus. Students will be working hard on creating our Camino pilgrimage as part of our celebration. More exciting details to come. We ask you to save the date to join in this agenda with us as we begin the next phase of foundationing our school as a Catholic school in identity, not just name.
See you in Term 3

Sport News
Last Friday we held our school Athletics Carnival. It was great to see everyone getting involved and having a run and also cheering and encouraging their housemates. The winning house on the day was Turners and the Age Champions are listed below.
Students who qualified for the Zone carnival have been notified and given all the information about the carnival and events they have qualified for. As the carnival is on the first day of next term, Tuesday 13th July, it is very important that money has been paid and permission given as we won't be able to chase students up next term to remind them. If you have not yet done this can you please do so ASAP.

Winter Appeal
Mini Vinnies
As part of our winter appeal, we are collecting any warm blankets or clothing that you no longer need. These will go to people in the community who are in need during Winter. Items can be dropped off to the box in the front foyer in the school office.
Vinnies Family Sleepout
We are inviting all families to be advocates for the Homeless. We are hoping to raise awareness about homelessness and disadvantage in our community. Families in our school community are invited to take part in the Family Sleepout during the school holidays.
Choose a night, dress in warm clothes and sit outside in the cold until you start to feel cold. During this time, discuss questions around how you are feeling, how the homeless must feel, as well as share some facts to raise awareness of Homelessness.
Make soup together to drink to stay warm when out on your own sleep out/sit out. This is something that the Vinnies Homeless Van usually distributes to those on the street.
Don't Forget:
Take a photo of you and your family and email to yamp@lism.catholic.edu.au to be shared in the newsletter next term.

Early Stage 1
This week in Kindergarten we say goodbye to two students who are leaving Yamba. We wish Sebastian Beckwith and Oliver Grieve all the best at their new schools, they will be greatly missed. Cruz, Elliott, Aiden and Jackson built a Yamba roundabout during their construction time in Investigations this week. I was so impressed with their attention to details. Jackson built road worker signs, Aiden ensured he had a coffee cup in his hands at all times, Elliott placed pot plants in the middle and Cruz told me he needed to now build ‘worker accommodation’. Such great team work and inspiration from their Yamba context!

Stage 2
As part of our Persuasive Writing unit this semester students have been learning about advertising! Persuasive advertising aims to convince its audience of a certain belief that leads to action — often buying products. Students have been using persuasive techniques to convince their audience to buy their product! In small groups the students chose a product that they were going to advertise. The challenge was- they had to make an original advertisement. This meant that they had to create a new image of the product (not just download one from the internet), this is where the fun began as stage 2 used green screen technology to create their ‘original image’. We have seen lots of creativity and fun ideas thus far…..stay tuned for the finished products!
