Dear Parents and Carers
Next week we have 4 children and their families travelling to Sydney to compete at the Polding Cross Country in Sydney. In theory, Heidi, Iyla, Jake and Willow might be on a "dry track!" but we wait and see. Best wishes, children.
On Wednesday all Year 6 travelled to Grafton to join with the rest of our cluster schools for a retreat day. All reports have been very positive, from working with ex-students who are enrolled at McAuley, catching up with old friends and siblings from Yamba and making new friends for the future.
Yesterday Mrs Frazer, Mrs Hancock and a group of 15 children took part in the Closing the Gap day at Maclean. This community engagement is held very dearly by the school community in ensuring that we support all students to grow as learners. The report back is that the day was amazing.
On Thursday and Friday a team of staff have spent time with Saint Joseph's Maclean working with Dr Lyn Sharratt, world expert on School Improvement ( via zoom from Lake Huon in Ontario, Canada) to learn about our potential for collective inquiry into learning at our schools. This work is diocesan-wide and we are in the 3rd Cohort. Obviously more to come as we "go slowly to go fast" or move strategically and focus our literacy learning journey into the future. Our professional learning day at the end of Term 3 is based on this work and this is the focus of our School Improvement Plan for 2022.
Next week ES1 are off to the Yamba Museum and St James Church. Now that we can, we are "out and about" and pleased to have our community "in and about".
See you somewhere in the next week.

Maths fun with your children
You will need to think like a mathematician to solve the following problems and find multiple solutions. Have a go at these with your children and bring in your answers to share with Mrs Dougherty.
You may need to use concrete materials such as blocks, pasta shapes, beans or straws to help solve.
Have Fun.
Lisa Dougherty
Robotics
How exciting is it to learn a new skill! This group is working with Mrs Mooney on robotics. Robotics is fun but underneath we work on cooperative thinking strategies and computational thinking. Keep an eye out for other opportunities across the year to learn and celebrate.

INCITARE
On Wednesday Year 6 students attended Incitare Retreat at McAuley Catholic College, Grafton. Students joined with other Year 6 students from the Clarence Primary feeder-schools to learn how to gain confidence and overcome challenges in living a life of faith. The day was facilitated by McAuley Youth Ministry Leaders and CSO staff.
Students engaged in hands-on activities and small and large group discussions, where students were able to talk about being brave and trying their hardest to live a Christian life.
Students enjoyed the experience and loved visiting the college and also seeing some of our past students there!
FAMILY MATTERS
Living as a family and raising children would have to be one of life’s experiences most filled with possibility and hope. In a world that can sometimes overwhelm us with pandemics, natural disasters and unexpected and life altering challenges, families need a firm hold of hope and possibility more than ever. Hope inspires belief in a better future and empowers action to make that future happen and it’s both critical and wonderful to grow the sense of possibility and hope that reaches beyond optimism and wishful thinking and helps your family thrive.
Use this resource with your family to focus on hope and possibility.
ES1
This week in Religion ES1 students have been learning that the Church is a community of believers that gathers to pray and celebrate. We have looked at photos of inside a church, examining the altar, lectern, tabernacle, baptismal font, cross and paschal candle. We have been learning about gestures used in the church, like making the Sign of the Cross. All this learning is in preparation for our excursion to the St James Catholic Church and the Yamba Museum next week! Check out the photos of our church building!
Stage 1
We have had a lot of fun exploring measurement this week using formal and informal. We have identified and compared things that are the same length as, taller and shorter than ourselves and other objects around the classroom. We have seen some great effort to ensure that when measuring that there is no overlap and gaps, so that our reading is accurate.
Stage 2
Week 6 has been a very busy week for Stage 2. Our “Let Go” narrative stories were published and have been displayed in our classroom - what a great read our walls hold! During Science we have completed a major research task on Where Do Materials Come From? and we also had fun with a Design and Make STEM challenge.
Stage 3
Written by Elly, Owen, Aiden, Chloe & Sam
On the 1st of June Year 6 attended Incitare, a Yr 6 retreat, at McAuley Catholic College. We got into small groups and filled out a little booklet throughout the day as we reflected on our faith. In our little groups we had two Year 10 students from McAuley and some Year 6’s from the other Catholic schools in the Clarence Valley. It was really fun getting to know new people we’ll be at school with next year, all while learning about religion.
This week in Maths we have been learning about multiplication algorithms with Miss Haines and we have been learning about 3D shapes with Mrs Petersen. We also did some Maths Online tasks to practise our algorithms and 3D shapes. We have been practising our 7 times tables this week for quick fact recall!
In Geography we have now all chosen a country to research. We have started looking for facts and information, and at the end of this term and early in next term we'll be making a website about our country. We are using different reputable websites to find information to add to our websites, and are learning how to keep track of the websites we visit by creating bibliographies.
Every Thursday half the class does dancing with Mrs Petersen whilst Miss Haines teaches Health to the other half. In Health, we are learning about how to make responsible choices that positively impact us and those around us. In Dance, we are learning to shuffle and we have also learnt to griddy. Today we are learning to do breakdancing!
On Wednesday this week while Year 6 was at Incitare, Year 5 stayed at school and did some gardening. We planted shallots, red onions, carrots, spring onions, radish and lots more - check out at Instagram to see pictures!
