Dear Parents and Carers
We are nearly half way through the term. This week a group of fifteen principals from the Diocese of Lismore visited our school, it was lovely having them with us. They visited every classroom, spoke to the children about their learning and were very impressed by the children's engagement. It was lovely to hear their positive responses but more importantly the children being able to talk about themselves as learners. This is a big year for us as we develop our clarity of purpose as learners (a Diocesan wide project) and complete our school review.
We are keen to hear voice from our community and commend to you our community conversations process and the Tell Them From Me survey. Our first Community Conversation will be on a date we as a collective choose at the Welcome Back School Community BBQ. We will have a sign on sheet available and ask for the best days of family availability. Please see above for the details of the BBQ.
This morning in Kiss n Drop Christopher in Stage 1 let me know that in Stage 1, the ticket drawer for great behaviour and engagement had a couple of whole class tickets included. He was hoping that one of these was drawn out so that the whole class could celebrate. I've just walked past Stage 1 and there was a fair squeal as a whole class ticket was drawn. Two things I noticed - the children were joyous together and Christopher was smiling.
I'm away most of next week at Diocesan training but the school is in the capable hands of the Assistant Principals and staff.
We have a great team of 25 students off to the Zone Swimming on Monday and we wish them well. We know that they have been training in preparation and that the effort will be 100% as will their behaviour. It is always a joy to send the children out to events as we know they represent with pride.
Interviews are underway. If you have not seen the notice on COMPASS yet, please check and register. Can't make the times available? Send a message in and the staff will arrange an alternative later in the term.
Have a lovely weekend.
Ann

Ten:Ten is a high-energy experience focused on enabling students to achieve the fullness of life. Inspired by the words of Jesus in the Gospel of John, “I came so that they may have life, life to the full” (John 10:10), this experience is an opportunity for students to celebrate life with their peers and hear of the relevance of the Gospel from a team of faithful youth ministers. Each of the Ten:Ten sessions is an invitation for students to encounter Jesus through music, talks, interactive activities and prayer.
This experience is facilitated by the Ten:Ten Team. This includes the Proclaim Lismore Wildfire Worship Team, well-known for their original new worship music, and local Youth Ministry Officers.

PROJECT COMPASSION
Ash Wednesday – 22 February 2023
(Week beginning Monday 20th February)
This week, the season of Lent begins with Ash Wednesday, which also marks the beginning of the annual Caritas Australia Project Compassion Appeal. Donations to Project Compassion allow Caritas Australia, the Catholic Agency for International Aid and Development, to work with local communities around the world to end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity.
The theme of Project Compassion 2023 is ‘For All Future Generations’ and reminds us that the good we do today extends to impact the lives of generations to come. It invites us to make the world a better place by working together now and finding long-term solutions to global issues. We encourage students and families to put your compassion into action this Lent through prayer, fasting and almsgiving in support of Project Compassion. Each class has a Project Compassion box on their prayer space where they will be collecting donations for those less fortunate. We are having a competition to see which class can raise the most money. The winning class will receive a fun afternoon with their teachers. Children may speak to you about this initiative and are learning about the people who they are supporting through their donations. Thank you for your generosity.

Stage 1 News
Stage one students have settled into their class routines smoothly and have designed some great Class Rules and Expectations for our room. Several students voiced that they really wanted one of our rules to mention that we are a TEAM that work together. How awesome is that!
We have delved into Visual Arts and we are learning about realistic and abstract art. In particular, we are examining Picasso’s self portraits and we have attempted his style. Come into our room and check out our Picasso self portraits!
In Religion, we have been learning about the sacrament of Baptism. Students have been sharing old photos of their baptism as we learn that in baptism we receive God’s Holy Spirit and are welcomed into the Church.
